Editor's Choice: Nonni's Biscotti

Good things come in threes.

Hailing from a small town in Italy, Nonni’s Biscotti grew out of true Italian tradition. The authentic-tasting Italian flavors from Nonni's (an Italian term for "Grandmother") Biscotti follows the rule of threes by including three new flavors to the Biscotti Bites product line. Using original family recipes with gourmet chocolate, Nonni's devotion to quality doesn't go unnoticed here and it's proved to be the foundation for their continued success. The decadent flavor combinations in the almond dark chocolate, double chocolate salted caramel and very berry almond cookies are what I imagine heaven to be like. The vibrant packaging is a nice touch, making it more desirable to keep a bag at your desk (also allowing for more self-indulgence).

The 5-serving bags would be a perfect amount, but with anything chocolate salted caramel acting as my kryptonite, I admittedly finished the entire bag before everyone had a chance to try them.

Editor’s Choice: Way North Foods

One of my favorite treats to eat with coffee or tea is biscotti. They’re the perfect size snack, and something about dunking the slender cookie into my warm drink is comforting. I was thrilled when we received samples of Way North Foods’ (www.waynorthfoods.com) array of artisanal handcrafted biscotti, which come in six core flavors: Dried Cherry White Chocolate, Double Dark Chocolate, Orange Dried Cranberry, Maple Walnut, Luscious Lemon and Lemon Dried Blueberry White Chocolate.

I was immediately inclined to try the Lemon Dried Blueberry White Chocolate; the tart, bright notes make it one of my favorite flavor combinations. So one lazy Thursday evening, while watching a hilarious episode of The Office, I made myself a cup of Earl Grey, which turned out to be a great pairing with this biscotti flavor. I really appreciated the subtle white-chocolate glaze over a portion of the biscotti, which added a unique element to its flavor. Needless to say, my nighttime snack put me in a great mood and was the perfect end to a long day.

This Michigan-based company, founded by Chef Perry Harmon, uses locally sourced ingredients in its recipes; I encourage you to check out the company’s full line, which includes baking mixes, granola and beer brittle (made with local microbrews).

Editor's Choice: Nonni's Food Company

Now it has already been established that most of the Fancy Food staff has a bit of an issue with mornings. We've talked about our favorite hot cocoas, teas and beverage accessories, but liquid breakfasts do not a happy editor make. That's why I was happily surprised when samples of Nonni's Food Company's new Soft Baked Tusconi showed up at our office. Flavors include Classico (almond and praline, topped with toasted almonds), Cioccolato (almond with chocolate morsels, topped with shaved almonds and ribbons of gourmet dark chocolate), Double Cioccolato (a chocolate treat with chocolate morsels topped with shaved almonds and ribbons of gourmet dark chocolate) and my personal favorite, Raspberry Cioccolato (raspberries with chocolate morsels, topped with ribbons of gourmet dark chocolate). These little Tusconi are a softer alternative to notoriously crunchy biscotti, and are the perfect morning accompaniment to my favorite warm beverage -- whether that be coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

Everybody loves a little treat in the morning, so even when there's no time to mess around in the kitchen, these individually wrapped pieces are ready to go.

The products are still pretty new and should be out early this month. Visit www.nonnis.com for more information.
